Contest

2024

SPECIAL NOTE:This is the “Goa Christian” Konkani dialect version using Romi script resulting from our KLC2024-X Collaboration initiative wherein Claniffa, while trying to fix the Meter & Rhyme issues of Prabhavi’s original KLC2024 entry, ended up re-writing it in its entirety with an impressive outcome, which had to be made available in both the Goan Christian and Hindu Konkani dialects so that everybody could enjoy singing this old Global Hit now available as a beautiful Konkani Git…thanks to Prabhavi and Claniffa! Prabhavi took the trouble to do its “dialect translation” into “Goan Hindu” Konkani dialect version using Devanagari script and named it as “कागदी फुलां”, which can be found right next to this song.

Totally unplanned this was a spontaneous example of the Goan Hindu-Christian amity…may it always remain in full bloom through Konkani!

Verse 1

I realise the way your eyes deceive me
Gomlem atam maka koxem fottoilem

With tender looks that I mistook for love
Tujea dolleamnim, mog dislo maka

So take away the flowers that you gave me
Tor vhor porot dilelim fulam tuvem

And send the kind that you remind me of

Ani dhadd tim jim tuzo ugddas dita

Chorus

Paper roses, paper roses,
Kagdach' fulam, kagdach' fulam

Oh how real those roses seem to me
Polleounk kitlim tim, khorim dista

But they're only imitation
Punn tim fulam, khottim fulam

Like your imitation love for me

Khottea moga baxen re tujea

Verse 2

I thought that you would be a perfect lover
Dislem maka tum mhunn re khoro mogi

You seemed so full of sweetness at the start
Poilimnch ji tuvem dakoili goddsann

But like a big red rose that's made of paper
Punn tea vhoddlea kagdachea fula sarki

There isn't any sweetness in your heart

Nah koslich movallai tujea kallzan
